![]() ![]() A nice if not particularly fantastic story. The romance sucked, but the setting was cute and charming in its own way. That said, she comes across as quite mature and levelheaded for her age. Personality: 3/10 The kid has promise, but he needs at least 5 years or so to grow up…Īppearance: Not gonna rate a child who’s almost half my age, sorry! And even though I’ve never so much as stepped foot in West Tokyo, the whole thing gave me a strong sense of nostalgia! So in short, if you totally ignore the romantic aspect of this route, the charming portrayal of teenage life in a slowly modernizing small town in Japan was nicely done! The characters felt and behaved like relatively realistic teenagers. ![]() And both Ichigo and MC are absolutely terrible communicators. He and MC are just way too young and immature for me to really believe in or root for their happily ever after, despite all those final episode vows of true love.īut all those character flaws are also what I found kind of charming about this whole story/setup. His general brattiness and nobody-understands-me attitude is irritating. Ichigio’s hypocritical jealousy, for starters, is very annoying (how come he gets to hang out with pretty girls while getting pissy over any guy MC talks to?!). Objectively speaking, Ichigo and MC’s love story is pretty frustrating. And things get worse after he spots Togo and MC hugging… When Togo, Ichigo’s free-spirited and somewhat selfish brother, moves back to town temporarily, the kid pretty much loses it. She also reignites his passion for baking cakes, and encourages him to participate in local community events.Ĭute as their blossoming relationship might be, teenage drama^tm gets in the way, pretty quickly. As time goes on, the pair gets better reacquainted with each other, and MC helps Ichigo get along better with his high expectations Asian father. After Ichigo strong-arms her into helping out at the pastry shop in lieu of paying rent, because that’s totally how it works in a romance story. When an accident leaves MC without a place to stay, she moves in with Ichigo and his parents. So maybe it’s simply geared for a younger audience, but yours truly is on the wrong side of 20…īasically, Dream Days in West Tokyo is a charming and slow paced story about a young girl who moves back to her hometown after 10 years away, and her reunion with the local boys she used to play with. Among these boys is Ichigo: a mean and grumpy, if generally well-intentioned son of a pastry chef who’s been “secretly” in love with MC since childhood. Ichigo embodies teenage angst in a nutshell: he doesn’t really get along with his parents, claims to hate his provincial town, is bossy, and gets jealous easily.
